12/9/2023 0 Comments Sigma 35mm 1.4 art sony frame![]() $748 is more than acceptable to me, an actual owner/user of the lens as it's fast, it's as sharp as most people actually need/want, it's quiet, it's small, and it's lightweight. I would argue, with experience, that it's more than sufficient for most people unless you are pixel peeping at 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 at parts of a photograph where it would be utterly impossible to discern softness on a posted/printed photograph. Still the 1.8/35mm lens is fine for my use.īut then not having the lens is probably fine when wanting to bash it. Wanted a good lens, got it.ĭid not want a huge and heavy and pricy near perfect lens, did not get that. Price does not matter in my case, but size do. There are obviously better lenses around with a bit less chromatic aberration, but only at twice the weight and twice the price. The lens is small and handy, quite good even wide open - at least mine is. Well - did not think twice, just got it, and do not recognize the perfomance described here. Very disappointing performance for such an expensive lens. Soft and smearing in the corners, poor LoCa and terrible coma. The Sony FE 35mm f1.8 has poor performance at wider than f2.8 aperture: The last page of the below article provides some comparisons for you. Maybe rent it first and try it out? Lensrentals or others. I used to have that lens on a Canon mount a long time ago. You might have some reservations about the focusing ability of the Sigma 35 1.4 when compared to the Sony. The new Sigma, intended for mirrorless E mount is the 35 1.2 DG DN. I don't pixel peep images at 2:1 or 3:1 in LR. Although, I'm not that picky about sharpness as some. It's pretty sharp center-wise, and gets better stepping down to 2.8. Is it super tack sharp at 1.8? That's subjective. Is it really that huge? How big of a problem is it? Haven't seen too much from the Sony either so if anyone has/had any experience with one of these I'd be happy to hear about it! The photos I see from the Sigma are just amazing but the size and weight get me thinking. Additionally, the lens features an 11-blade rounded diaphragm for smooth bokeh quality and the lens housing is also weather-sealed to suit working in inclement conditions.I've been trying to decide between these two lenses but I'm having quite a hard time. For autofocus, a stepping motor is used that maintains a lightweight and compact design while promoting fast and near silent focusing performance for both stills and video applications. Also, a Super Multi-Layer Coating enhances image quality by suppressing lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity in strong lighting conditions.īalancing the optics is a refined exterior design, which features a physical aperture ring, which can be de-clicked or locked, along with a dedicated focus mode switch and AFL button for intuitive and tactile control. It also incorporates two aspherical elements and high refractive index elements to achieve a notable degree of clarity and sharpness with well-controlled distortion and aberrations. The optical layout incorporates two SLD Special-Low Dispersion, one ELD Extra-Low Dispersion, and one FLD Low Dispersion elements. ![]() The f/1.4 maximum aperture enables working in low-light conditions and also provides increased control over depth of field for achieving shallow depth of field effects. Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens for Sony EĪ classic wide angle lens updated for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless systems, the 35mm f/1.4 DG DN from Sigma is an Art-series prime characterized by its advanced and updated optical design, sleek profile, and bright design.
